Are you looking for something for your guest bedroom? A sofa that can convert into a bed when company's over? Would you like a beautiful piece of furniture for your small space? Maybe your door way is not wide enough to get that expensive sofa through? If you've asked yourself any of those questions, a futon is for you.

Modern futons include different styles, and some of these types of futons may not be what the person is looking for. It is important to see a picture of the item or view it in person before buying it to make sure it is the type of futon that the buyer has in mind.

Synthetic fibers; polyester, nylon, rayon and such; might not be quite as soft but they last longer than natural fibers. Synthetic fibers have come a long way, they are constantly being improved and they hold vivid dyes that cotton and linen can't. A good compromise between Natural and Synthetic fibers is blends of the two, which are in abundance in the futon cover market.

Whether it was softwoods or hardwoods, the frames featured good fundamental designs made from solid wood. These futon frames would incorporate new working mechanisms and ideas in operation that made futons appealing not only in their design but in the quality of materials and construction that went into them. The futon industry was doing well and growing with these frames heading into the 1990's but then the black metal futon frame came onto the scene.

Because they come flat in about six primary parts they are easy to get around tough corners in a home or into tight spaces where most furniture can't go. Why is this important? Most upholstered furniture can't be easily disassembled to fit through tight spaces. Futons can, and can easily. In most cases you simply take each part in one at a time and then assemble it in the room. What could be easier?

I've seen the frames I sell go into third story rooms in those gorgeous 1800's New England Colonials. While they are beautiful homes, they are quite a chore to move anything into or out of. I have sold many Futon Frames and Mattresses to customers in New York City, where space is at such a premium, that I've lost count. Don't forget those rural areas, where going to the furniture store is sometimes a day's drive.

The first problem with black metal frames is the round metal bars that make up the seat and back sections of these frames. Where as wood futon frames are using flat slats, black metal frames have hollow round bars. Thinner mattresses would slide through the gaps between the round bars. On wood futons this was never a problem. The other issue with the hollow bars is that if enough weight was placed on a spot they would begin to bend. The issue became so bad that a 90 day warranty was put in place by most manufacturers of these frames.

Furnishing a home is never a cheap proposition, and everyone should always be on the lookout for ways to keep costs down. One way to do this is by choosing futons since they are cheaper and more versatile than other furniture. Offering both simplicity and great flexibility, they can bring savings other types of furniture simply cannot.
