Whether it was softwoods or hardwoods, the frames featured good fundamental designs made from solid wood. These futon frames would incorporate new working mechanisms and ideas in operation that made futons appealing not only in their design but in the quality of materials and construction that went into them. The futon industry was doing well and growing with these frames heading into the 1990's but then the black metal futon frame came onto the scene.

The makes any type of home repairs extremely irritating at best. Futons are very open though and everything is easily accessible. This flexibility in being able to change from a sofa to a bed in no time is especially slick for those who do not want to invest in an extra bed for occasional guests or for those who simply do not have room for extra furniture. They come in up to queen sizes and work just fine for daily use as a bed too.

These frames while not as simple and inexpensive as the tri-fold designs allowed for greater creativity and design and looked more like conventional furniture. Bi-fold futon frames as their name suggests are made with two sections a seat and back rack. The design of these futon frames allowed for easier conversion from a sofa to a bed and back again and offered seating at the same height as most other furniture making them perfect for anyone. Arms at each end of the futon would be made in various designs and styles allowing for easy integration into almost any room. Bi-Fold futon frames are made in sofa, loveseat and chair sizes and are often available with matching tables and ottomans.

While this makes them more like the kind of furniture non-Japanese expect, they still have unique features and simplicity that make them a great, cost-effective choice.

I've seen the frames I sell go into third story rooms in those gorgeous 1800's New England Colonials. While they are beautiful homes, they are quite a chore to move anything into or out of. I have sold many Futon Frames and Mattresses to customers in New York City, where space is at such a premium, that I've lost count. Don't forget those rural areas, where going to the furniture store is sometimes a day's drive.

At night, these mattresses were then taken out and used as beds. Nowadays, thanks to their new features, futons have gained in popularity all over the world and have become synonymous with great convenience as well as superb comfort.
