You’ll never guess it by the title of this post, but we’ve decided to record the show live! Be sure to check out the Livestream Feed every Sunday night at 9:30pm PST for the drunken ramblings that make up a live Raid Warning. Those who attend the show will have a chance to earn prizes and get a very special “encore” at the end of the show (one that wont make the edited version). It’s really just another excuse for 10 mins of absolute randomness.

Thes – New Quest Hub to Prep Players For Raiding?
http://blue.mmo-champion.com/topic/174153/blizzard-are-you-seeing-the-trend
While the goal isn’t specifically to prepare players for dungeons and raids — rather, just to make content that’s fun and cool — the quests themselves and some their related achievements encourage the use of tactics that you’d might see in dungeon and raid encounters.

  • “Burn Victims” is a “heal the wounded NPCs in the field” type of quest, which will give players a salve to use on burn victims in the Molten Front. Healers will be able to use their healing spells, however, and complete the quest much more easily (since most heals are ranged).
  • “Strike at the Heart” is a quest with randomized bosses, all of which have raid-style environmental damage. There’s even an achievement (currently named “Ready for Raiding II”) for killing all five of those random bosses without taking damage from their avoidable environmental effects.
  • Some other achievements in the areas promote more skilled, “raid-style” play, too. “Flawless Victory,” for example, asks players to solo kill a Molten Behemoth (found in the Molten Front) without taking any damage from two its abilities: Molten Stop and Fiery Boulder. And “Master of the Molten Front” requires players to kill a variety of flamewakers in arguably non-standard ways (e.g. pwning a Flamewaker Shaman with his own Flamewave).

4.2 Patch Notes
C-Classes: General

  • All healing critical strikes now heal for 2 times a normal heal (+100%), up from 1.5 times a normal heal (+50%).

Thes- Buffs

  • All class abilities which place a buff on friendly targets no longer generate any threat. This goes for raid-wide buffs like Mark of the Wild and Power Word: Fortitude, as well as triggered effects such as Blessed Resilience or Fingers of Frost, and single-target buffs like Dark Intent and Hysteria. The exception is buffs which directly cause healing or damage, such as Thorns or Renew. Abilities such as these still generate normal threat.

Joe-Pets

  • The Aggressive pet stance has been removed and replaced with the Assist stance. This stance will cause the player’s pet to attack the player’s target. The pet will not change targets unless the master attacks a new target for a few seconds.

7-Spell Interrupts

  • When interrupted while casting a single-school spell such as Mind Flay or Frostbolt, players will now be able to cast dual-school spells such as Mind Spike (Frost and Shadow schools) or Frostfire Bolt (Frost and Fire schools). However, being interrupted while casting a dual-school spell will still interrupt all respective schools as intended.

thes-Guilds

  • The daily guild experience cap has been increased by 25%.
  • The weekly guild reputation cap has been increased by 25%.
  • The guild experience cap is now removed at level 20, down from level 23.

Mount confusion:
Dungeon Finder Call to Arms

http://blue.mmo-champion.com/topic/173923/dungeon-finder-cta-mounts

Looking back on it I have to admit it’s worded fairly poorly. The intent has always been that they won’t contain raid mounts, but can contain mounts from anywhere else. It’s really at the discretion of the designers to choose the mounts, we just didn’t want people to think it’d be dropping Mimiron’s Head or anything like that. You’re right, it’s a bit misleading. I wish we had caught that.

Sorry for the confusion.

4.2 Crowd Control Changes
Many crowd control abilities no longer cause creatures to attack players when they are cast. The creature will not attack the player when the crowd control wears off, and nearby creatures will not become hostile to the player either. However, if a visible player gets too close to the target creature, the creature will remember and attack the player when the crowd control effect wears off. The intent is to make it easier for dungeon groups to manage crowd control assignments and pulling packs of hostile NPCs.

http://blue.mmo-champion.com/topic/167937/41-preview-dungeon-finder-call-to-arms

  • When queue times reach a certain threshold, Call to Arms kicks in and will determine the role needed
  • Icon will change to role needed for easy identification
  • those who queue (as a single person) for a random will get bonus loot
  • The additional reward for completing the Dungeon Finder Call to Arms (called the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries) will be Bind on Account;

Bind to Battle.net Account Items in 4.1
Tanking Items Introduced
Account Bound Items

  • Many “Account Bound” heirlooms are now labeled as “Battle.net Account Bound”, meaning that they can also be traded or mailed to characters that are on different World of Warcraft accounts under the same Battle.net account.
  • Mail sent to characters on the same Battle.net account now arrives instantaneously, as it does for the same World of Warcraft account.
  • Mailing account-bound items to characters of the opposite faction on the same Battle.net account will now correctly translate faction-specific items to their appropriate equivalent

Guild Challenges Incoming
http://blue.mmo-champion.com/topic/166490/patch-41-guild-challenges

  • Guild Challenges fall into three categories: Guild Dungeon Run, Guild Raid, and Guild Rated Battleground.
  • Each challenge can be completed a set number of times per week. Guild groups participating in level-appropriate Heroic or normal difficulty dungeons and raids, or Rated Battlegrounds, will automatically qualify for challenge credit.
  • Each time a Guild Challenge is completed, the guild will be awarded experience and gold deposited directly into the Guild Vault, as well as the opportunity to earn all-new achievements. A popup or “toast” will be displayed to confirm a Guild Challenge has been completed (similar to achievement alerts).
  • Guild experience earned via Guild Challenges will be awarded above the daily cap. The experience cap will move forward relative to the amount of experience obtained through completing Guild Challenges (similar to rested experience for characters).
  • Guilds already at the level cap will be awarded substantially more gold in place of guild experience.
  • Gold rewards require the qualified guild members of the group to be honored with their guild, and the guild must be level 5.

Guild Transfer and Guild Renaming Services Coming Soon
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2267590574
The idea is for a guild leader to be able to transfer a guild to another realm. The guild structure remains intact, including the guild leader, guild bank, ranks, and guild name (depending on availability).

Guild members who decide to relocate with their guild may initiate their own paid character transfer. Upon a successful transfer they will automatically be part of the guild when they first log into the new realm. Their guild rank and guild reputation will be intact.

Guild leaders who do not want a change of scenery may also choose to pick a new guild name using another new service. These services are in development and we will be providing additional details at a future point in time.

Dev Q&A Highlights

  • Experimenting with adding a threat meter to party/raid UI
  • May morph combat log into something more Recount-ish
  • 4.2 to allow players the ability to change toon order in login window
  • Still looking at the way the AH interacts with the Mailbox for those with a ton of auctions
  • We plan on implementing a system where winning an item via Need (when using the Dungeon Finder Need Before Greed loot system) will make a BoE item soulbound. We hope to have this working for the 4.2 patch.
  • The legendary weapon will be offered in both 10 and 25-man difficulties, however it will be 2 to 2.5 times faster to complete in a 25-man raid.
  • The Firelands legendary weapon has an amazing story and quest chain associated with it.
  • Account Bound items will be transferable to other realms “some day”.
  • Blizzard wants to add more customizations to characters but isn’t sure that dyes is the way to do it.

Quick Hits:
General Class Changes
All non-damaging interrupts off the global cooldown will now always hit the target. This includes Pummel, Kick, Mind Freeze, Rebuke, Skull Bash, Counterspell, Wind Shear, Solar Beam, Silencing Shot, and related player pet abilities. This does not include Shield Bash.

Canadians Get Throttled:
Rogers ISP experiencing “software issues” throttling users who play WoW. A recent WoW change is causing the problem, and users can expect a fix sometime in June. A lot of this is due to Rogers trying to throttle bittorrent users.

Darkmoon Faire Chicago:
Dan Clark probably said, “I is sexay” when he picked up 1st place at Darkmoon Faire Chicago, which earned him an iPhone, an iPad 2, and a Spectral Tiger loot card. Equal representation of Horde/Ally. The final showdown was A-DK vs. A-Warlock. One of the first chances to see War of the Elements, the newest expansion of the wowtcg. People blocking mailboxes with flying mounts
You may have noticed that a number of mailboxes were added to the capital cities so that, if you happen to find one blocked, it should be relatively easy to walk a few steps and find another one that remains unobstructed. Most vendors are located inside buildings where mounts aren’t allowed too.

Having the option to use one’s flying mounts within the capital cities is ultimately more convenient than removing them to ensure access to services which should be reasonably accessible to begin with. (Source)

Target position on Minimap in Patch 4.1
Patch 4.1 adds a very useful feature to the game, anything you target will now have its position displayed on the minimap! It’s obviously very useful when you’re looking for a NPC after using the /target command and I’m sure it will make a couple of rare elite hunters happy

Optional Bosses/Heroic Halls of Origination
We’ll need to weigh the value of optional dungeon and raid bosses further before we make any changes. There’s good arguments on both sides. On the one hand, optional bosses can be great for keeping dungeons and raids from feeling too linear or formulaic — and, when done right, they can also give groups a meaningful choice between getting extra loot and completing a run faster. On the other, optional bosses can sometimes create social tension, especially in Dungeon Finder groups, if players disagree whether they should invest the time to fight them.

Winged Lion Mount
http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/2211-Winged-Lion-Mount-Patch-4.1-PTR-Notes-March-15-Update-Blue-Posts

Blizzard vs The Bots
We’re in the process of stepping up our detection and tracking to log and action players that are botting, or habitually AFKing in the Battlegrounds. We’ll be taking aggressive action and removing earned items, Honor Points, and ultimately suspending or even banning accounts of those that are found to be botting or habitually AFKing. It’s a sophisticated level of monitoring we’re undertaking. No one actively playing in the Battlegrounds normally should be concerned that they’ll be actioned.

Dungeon Finder Hotfix Changes
Patch 4.0.6 February 18 Hotfixes, Blue Posts
Dungeon Finder

  • If a party member remains outside of a dungeon for more than 3 minutes, they become eligible for removal, regardless of other Vote Kick restrictions.
  • When players queue as a group with a tank or a healer, and the tank or healer drops group (or is kicked) within the first 5 minutes, all of the other players who queued with them are removed from the group as well.
  • If there is a group of 3 or more friends and someone in that group initiates a Vote Kick of a random party member, it now requires 4 votes to kick the player, instead of the standard 3 votes.
  • The penalty for using the Vote Kick feature too often is not issued to a player who kicks someone with whom they queued for a dungeon (i.e. the party member being selected for removal is not a player randomly selected via the Dungeon Finder).
  • The penalty for using the Vote Kick feature too often will be issued much more quickly to players who join as a party of 4 and kick the randomly selected 5th player.
  • The penalty for using the Vote Kick feature too often will now not allow the player to initiate a Vote Kick for 2 hours, up from 45 minutes.
  • These changes will require realm restarts to take effect. More information can be found here.

Dungeons & Raids

  • When switching a normal raid dungeon over to Heroic difficulty, players were instantly becoming saved without warning. There is now a warning dialog box which will appear before the difficulty is changed.

Blue Post: Bashiok on Hotfixes
We actually spent a bit of time talking to the designers about this very topic, and it’s something they’re well aware of and realize isn’t always ideal. A few really great points came out of that meeting, though:

  • Some changes in 4.0.6 and/or 4.0.6a were just wrong. For a myriad of reasons the changes made in 4.0.6/4.0.6a either did not pan out as expected, or were simply mis-calculations/interpretations. Which is the reason for a number of the quick reversions and changes in hotfixes shortly after the patch.
  • While there was feedback from the PTR on what is broken, overpowered, underpowered, etc. there simply wasn’t enough data and real world proof for us to make changes. Forum posts always make a lot of noise. It’s difficult to separate the seed from the chaff. Yes, it turned out a number of reports proved to be accurate once the 4.0.6′s hit the masses and we were able to get a sample size that showed us what needed adjusting.
  • The third point discussed was that we have an obligation to deploy hotfixes when we feel we’re making quality of life-improvements, fixing errors, or simply making good balance changes. Good balance is very much debatable among who you ask, of course. ;)
  • Fourth point really struck home with all of the designers, and that’s that they also have an obligation to not use the live realms as a balancing laboratory. That while the changes being made have seemed very quick and sporadic at times, that there is thought and planning going in to them, and they are consciously avoiding throwing out changes and seeing what happens. While some changes have been implemented and then reverted, it’s not because a lot of thought and effort didn’t go into them, but that simply they didn’t work as intended.

I know a lot of us remember the old days where classes would sit without changes for months, in some cases years for specific mechanics. A class would dominate for 6 months, and that’s just how the game was. There’s an agreement that 4.0.6 and 4.0.6a have been pretty chaotic with hotfixes, and that’s due to a number of issues that we don’t consider to be ‘usual’. We fully expect them to slow down substantially from this point, and we really appreciate everyone who stays on top of the hotfix blog, and relates the changes as they’re made to their guildies and friends.

Twitter Topic: Should WoW have a Vanilla Realm?
furiey

No. I don’t see the point in wasting server space like that – move forward, don’t get stuck in the past.

Samodean
I’m all about moving forward, not looking back. A lot of people who call for a return to the “old days” seem to forget how broken much of the gameplay/balance/itemization was.

Achloryn
I don’t think so, no. Old world things are still pretty damn trivialized by the way things are scaled nowadays. Besides, it would get old really quick for those who think they want it, imo.

Velidra
Everyone rerolls to the vanilla realm, rose tinted glasses would get shattered… and then it would be a ghost town. It would be like ToC, everyone thinks they want a trashless raid, then when we get it… yeaaah

NPC Equalization Incoming: Bashiok
http://blue.mmo-champion.com/topic/159047/we-need-more-than-one-major-city-please
We’re doing a full NPC equalization in the next major patch to ensure each capital city has the same tradeskill, trainer, and supply resources. Hopefully to ensure that any city can be visited for the majority of uses.

We don’t have any plans though to extend the dailies and portals in Stormwind and Orgrimmar to the other cities. They were specifically chosen as the main capital hubs for Cataclysm, and as such a lot of work went into updating and improving them knowing they would be the primary hubs, including new and redesigned areas for the dailies and portal hub.

In the same way that Dalaran or Shattrath were the main cities for their expansions, and housed unique quests and services, Stormwind and Orgrimmar are the main cities for Cataclysm.

Bashiok: Epilepsy and elementals flashing death effect

We’ve actually seen a number of forum posts, and received a few letters on the elemental death effects. We have a task set to remove the flashes from the death effect, although as the work hasn’t begun I couldn’t accurately state when the change might make it in.

In any case, we agree and we’re going to be changing them.
