Raid Changes:

http://www.mmo-champion.com/news-2/cataclysm-raid-progression-refinements-193787/

  • 10-Man and 25-Man raids will share the same lockout.
  • 10-Man and 25-Man raids difficulty will be as close as possible to each other.
  • 10-Man and 25-Man raids will drop the exact same loot, but 25-man will drop a higher quantity of items.
  • Normal versus Heroic mode will be chosen on a per-boss basis in Cataclysm raids, the same way it works in Icecrown Citadel
  • For the first few raid tiers, our plan is to provide multiple smaller raids. Instead of one raid with eleven bosses, you might have a five-boss raid as well as a six-boss raid.
  • Napoleann via email
I think that these changes are bad and good at the same time. It is good that, by doing a 10-man, I will be getting the same gear as I would be if I was in a 25-man. However, I think that these changes effectively kill 25-man raiding because, besides an achievement, there is no incentive to do a 25 instead of 10-man. Why would I choose to wait for 15 extra people when I can do the same thing, and get the same rewards, with ten? I guess we will all have to wait and see how this change actually plays out, but I can’t see it turning out well for 25-man raiding.

  • blue post: we might allow you to change between 10 and 25 on a per-encounter basis for additional flexibility. If you started a raid in 25-player mode and then found that you couldn’t get everyone together later in the week, you might be able to downsize the next few bosses to 10-player.

We change our minds sometimes, like about letting Charge work in combat for example.
In fact, one of the reasons we changed our minds about Heroic Leap (and Camo, and Trap Launcher) were so many players that were sad about seeing those abilities not make it in LK.

I think that life grip is like the T10 set bonus for priests. Tons of people who didn’t even acquire the gear or try it out cried about how lame it was while the people who actually gave it a try ended up getting really upset when the bonus was changed because it was actually a lot stronger than it looked. I really hope that people get to see this in action and try it out in beta before trying to get it removed and changed.

  1. Hi guys,
Thanks a ton for Raid Warning and in this episode pointing out what happened with Azeroth United.

Now that this is all out in the open I want to make sure and clarify a couple of points.

    1. 100% of all funds went directly to Child’s Play.

None of us including Stomp and Haf at Rawrcast received any of the donations. The Chip-In widget was given to us by Child’s Play and it was tied to their PayPal account.

So I just want to reassure everyone that at least the money did go to the charity.

    2. I have the following prizes to send out.

J!NX Clothing Company – $10 Gift Card and J!NX Keychain
Think Geek Bag of Holding ($49.99 value)
Think Geek – Epoch Clock ($49.99 value)
Think Geek – Personal Soundtrack T-shirt (29.99 value)
Think Geek – Personal Drum Kit T-shirt (29.99 value)
Think Geek – Personal Electronic Guitar T-Shirt (29.99 value)
The Hunting Lodge Podcast – A Pandaran Monk in-game Pet.
Deathwaits on Shadowsong U.S. – Murky the Murloc FigurePet
J!NX Clothing Company – $25 Gift Card, Talking Murloc Plush Toy, and J!NX Keychain
The 3 $100 Gift Certificates and 30-day World of Warcraft Game Card and 2009 Blizzcon Authenticator from Sideshow and Syrana to be sent to the Grand Prize Winner.=(Which will be sent mailed tomorrow April 30, 2010 to the winner.)

I volunteered to hold the prizes for those that wanted to mail them out to someone. But the final shipping to the winner was to be split. For whatever reason this did not occur at that time.

As happens with life, you get hit with the unexpected. The same happened here. I’ve had several months of health and financial difficulties and haven’t been able to send these prizes out. The details are personal.

But suffice it to say, I am terribly embarrassed to admit as such, but have pointed out on my blog last week, the prizes I had were being sent out.

I should have shouted out for help. But honestly admit, I was too embarrassed to ask and tried to take the responsibility and save up the money and send out the prizes myself.

When Fimlys realized that I was struggling, and the prizes hadn’t gone out, he immediately stepped up and offered to help make sure we send out what we have at least.

Fim is an awesome guy and needs to be acknowledged for all the hard work he has done.

As you guys alluded to in your show, the vision of AU and what it became are two VERY different things.

Anyways, I just want to reiterate. Fim and I are working to send what we have out. I know we both feel terrible about how this has turned out and is not at ALL what we wanted.

My humble apologies to you, to the community and to those involved.

(I’ll also post this up on my site so people don’t think I’m trying to hide behind anything.)

    Thanks again guys,
    -Eddie (aka Brigwyn)

    • Brig I appreciate the clarifications. Our intention is not to have anyone burned at the stake or anything, we just want the folks involved to step up and take responsibility, which you always have. Hearts, Hands, and Voices was a great cause, that as you correctly stated, became something quite different from its original vision. I just hope everyone else involved will do the same, so we can learn from this and move on. Unfortunately, I figure that is unlikely.

    • Hey there! I haven’t listened to this episode yet but I think I get the gist of what was said about AU. The original intent of AU was, as we even originally thought, more than the “founders” could do on their own. I think we just didn’t realize the extent to which that was true. Life happened and balls got dropped (yeah, that’s what I said :P )..

So, anyway. We are hoping that those prizes make it to the recipients finally. I’m not sure of the future of AU at this point given that it seems that few of us, the founders, nor anyone else seems to have time to achieve it’s original vision.

And yes, thank you Brig for clarifying that ALL of the donations, every last drop, went directly to Child’s Play and, all in all, was a HUGE success in terms of dollars raised for that wonderful charity. I know I promised to help with the shipping costs of the items and, admittedly I did nothing to push the matter, was waiting for Brig to let me know what he needed from me.

All that aside, We had lofty goals and a lackluster execution on some of those. I’m pretty sure that I’ve decided I’m just fail for actually managing a community.. :P Podcast, no problem.. Blogging, well, doin’ alright there.. But forums and community stuff and such.. well, that’s why I have OTHER people who really run the Blog Azeroth forums or they would also be fail…

Sorry all for dropping the ball :(

  2. Hey Guys,

I’ve been playing wow since Vanilla raiding everything in wow up to ICC and like you said in the cast yes wow will survive it’s not the end of the world that the 10\25′s will share the same weekly lockout.

That being said as the years have passed it really is becoming harder to find people who even know any different from what the game was to what it is today, change is never an easy thing to adapt to be it in the game or in life but that the thing about this change its a GAME if you don’t like the change move on to something else.

people will complain about stuff simply because they can rather than try and see the larger picture; do I miss 40 man raids fuck yea I do I loved that shit some of my best wow memories were in MC and BWL or doing NAXX at level 60.

Then TBC came out and I made different memories SWP was by far the hardest shit I’ve done in the game pre nerf kill on muru after weeks of wipes was amazing, or getting Ashes of Alar again pretty fucking cool in my book.

If blizzard wants to keep changing shit guess what they are going to the only way it’s going to stop changing is when the game stops being developed because without change they will lose players just the same as if they did change it anyways be it because the game becomes dull and boring or because they are trying something new.

Alpha started a few weeks ago and Beta will start probably in the summer if shits broken they aren’t about to just let it go live with it not working to how they want it Blizzard makes great games for a reason and it’s not because they just do the same shit over and over again it’s because they are constantly changing and adapting to what the masses want right now guess what it’s a casual atmosphere.

If you don’t like where it is then play something else you’re the one paying the 15$ a month and as long as you keep paying that blizzard is going to keep doing what they do best work for the $ and put out more great games.

Anyways keep up the great pod cast love listening to it every week =)

  3. WTF! You guys used those funds I sent for booze? I never knew..

  4. Hi,… I love you guys :]

  5. Ah, finally listened :)
Well, the point of the post about the Blizzcon 2010 thing (which I actually posted.. :P ) was just for the meetup running. And actually we’ve decided not to do the meetup as an AU meetup anyway. My plan was just to have a better meetup because I know what the old one would have cost and how much I actually paid out of nibs and my pocket to put things together (like the shirts we gave away, etc.) last year for the TNB meetup.

We originally were thinking we would do an AU meetup instead, but I think, in the end, we’ve decided just to do a TNB meetup. I wasn’t looking for anyone to help send us to blizzcon in any way (unless blizzard would like to.. :P ) but all sponsorship money would have gone to either the venue for the meetup or prizes to give away at the meetup (like we gave stuff away at our TNB meetup last year).

Again, the post about Blizzcon had nothing to do with sending anyone there. It was just to make the meetup better. The idea behind having the meetup as an AU meetup, we were hoping to revive the idea of it as a community (not just about the charity or any group for that). Since putting up that post, it was decided (since internally to TNB we decided we wanted to do another TNB meetup also) that we wouldn’t push for the AU meetup.

Also, after having listened to the podcast, I am really sorry your experience (and anyone else who feels hurt or upset) was poor with AU. It was, of course, never my intent to cause problems. It was purely to have a vehicle, initially, for the charity that was site-neutral.

Ok.. I’ve written enough for now :D If anyone wants more information about the history of AU and such, you are welcome to email me : fimlys at gmail.

    • The news about the dropping of AU saddens me quite a bit. I thought it was a great idea and I tried hard to support it how I could, with my heart, hands, or voice. I was even excited about a conglomerate AU community meetup at blizzcon. When the call went out looking for volunteers to help I jumped at the chance to become more involved. Offering my services to whatever extent that I could, since the wife and I were going to be down there for 8 nights. I am saddened to now hear this event will not even take place, and to only just hear about it now.

  6. You guys ranted a TON about the Azeroth United stuff and referenced a post Brian made…somewhere?… but there aren’t any links to any of this ‘blowup’ in the show notes? I listen to a number of podcasts but this is the first I’ve heard about any shady dealings with Azeroth United (to be honest I barely even remember it being promoted on Rawrcast months ago and then it felt like we never heard about it again)

Do you have any links to this stuff?

Lucky for me after listening to this I am happy that I can still count myself in the ‘completely enjoy’ category. I was probably laughing as hard at Seven as he was laughing at Thespius (sp?) reading his beer label (hope you are sober so you can wrap your head around this sentence!!).

  7. Guys, I really wish you would have contacted either Fimlys, Brigwyn, or myself before making so many assumptions and drawing false conclusions. Since you were not privy to any of the conversations regarding the administration of this Charity Event, I know for a fact that many of the points you made in this week’s episode are complete assumptions.

I would love to sit down and talk about the handlings with you, or any other member of Azeroth United. I worked extremely hard (along with Fim and Brig) to put together an amazing Charity Event, intended to draw attention to the amazing group of bloggers, podcasters, and other WoW sites that wanted to share the spotlight for such a great cause.

I don’t feel that we did any wrong in how the event was handled. I would appreciate an open line of communication with you and anyone for that matter that may question otherwise.

    Thank you again,
    Stompalina

    • We had several conversations with Brigwyn and were made aware of enough conversations to confirm how we felt. We needed to get it off our chests and we did. Brig and Fim were both kind enough to comment openly about mistakes that were made with AU and how the prizes and community piece were handled.

As far as open communication, this was not a publicity stunt or a play for more listeners (we love ours and whether it be 100 or 100,000, are quite happy). In fact, it will probably cost us listeners, which we were well aware of when we said what we did. It was simply using our public forum to vent our frustrations. We don’t plan on mentioning it again or using it to any sort of advantage. Brig gave plenty of foreshadowing to what was being discussed, and involved parties were given ample opportunity to address what he was obviously referencing. This, combined with the “Call to Arms” that was sent out via Twitter, leads me to question the sincerity of your request for open communication and makes this seem as an attempt to come off as the bigger person in public. If you truly want to discuss this further, you can do so through private means.

Prizes were not given out as promised, there is no disputing that, and it was not run with the community completely in mind. That is not just our opinion, but also that of at least 1 of the people running things. That is my last public word on it, we will not be drawn in to some war of podcasts or other such bollocks.

      • Before I go any further:
The one thing I think we can all agree on is: GET THESE PEOPLE THEIR PRIZES!. If people won, they won.

        Now on to my rant:
I am not too sure who in the listener community cares about any of this. The rants were vague, the attacks on another podcasts came across as self serving (probably the point of anyone doing anything, I guess.).

The rant was a bit of a mess that came across as a grudge to bear, or taking a stand for a friend. There is a place for both, but at the detriment of the community who are fans of all things Warcraft? Don’t take this as I want details, I don’t, just my opinion on how the segment came across. And yes as a regular listener, I know beer was involved.

What is the best that Raid Warning could accomplish? I’m guessing, people could leave AU in droves and any future events for Child’s Play don’t happen. Maybe behind the scenes AU isn’t 100% kosher, but over $7.000 was raised last year just through this portal. There is no question that it made it to it’s destination. If the event doesn’t happen this year? Will Raid Warning say ‘Good, serves AU right.’. We know who it will really affect.

This is a free country, leave AU and move on. Hell if leaving isn’t enough to sooth your frustration, email other podcasters and bloggers, tell them your experience. As the sources for our WoW blogs and podcasts, you all have the individual ability to move on to what you see as a better cause or organization.

I would like to add that I never would have found Raid Warning without AU. I looked at AU as a place to find a variety of blogs and podcasts, not a charity.

        Thanks for letting me post!

        • To me it sounded like what it was, a drunken rant about something that you were ill-informed about.

I listen to a lot of Podcasts and to be honest, this will be the last time I listen to yours.

“The Rant” was nothing but trying to tear another person/people down because they worked hard to promote something that may or may not have increased their vision in the podcast community.

It was a good promotion and the kids DID get their games. It looks as if mistakes were made when getting out the prizes out and that is something that is in the process of being rectified.

To me this is much ado about nothing.

          • Alex,
As a person who admittedly screwed up AND is rectifying the prize situation, I think you missed the underlying cause of the rant.

Azeroth United was to be community focused. Yes, All of the members were highlighted by having their badges added to the membership roster, no single blog or individual was to become a focus.

As a founder and one of the principle’s involved, I can tell you that this was not the case.

On individual did use it as a promotion vehicle. Not only that they used the charity event itself as a promotion vehicle.

I myself had to go the WoW.com, sponsors, and community members reassuring them this was not the case.

Unfortuneately, time and time again, this individual would make themselves the focus, and not the community. Or at least that is what this episode is saying.

Also, understand. Brian and Seven were Sponsors. The staked a bit of their credibility in promoting AU. What they did not sign up to do was promote ANYONE else, or have their involvement used to promote another blog, podcast, community, etc…

With these facts in mind, And as a principle that was justly questioned, I would hope you would reconsider your post,

That in mind, I won’t argue the fact that maybe Beer, Anger/frustration, and Podcasting don’t always mix and may cause the message to get lost.

            Respectfully,
            Eddie (aka Brigwyn)

  8. ty guys for placing some beam of light into this mess that au was, of course brig would leave after failing to give proper credit to you guys…after all what do you expect from a bm crying hunter?

    • I take the brig crap back I was completely wrong and also drunk while listening to the show/podcast and i didn’t finish listening completely before ranting on my own…sorry dudes and sorry to brig/eddie/whatever but bm still is fail ha!

      • No problem Tulip. Everyone makes mistakes and I’ve made loads. :)

I appreciate the fact you took the time to listen again and came back to apologize.

I only wish more people in the community were willing to stand up and take that kind of responsibility.

        Thank you again. :)

  9. Long time listener, first time poster…

I wanted to say thanks for ranting in an open fashion. I’ve been kind of burned out on WoW lately, and you guys have revitalized my interest a bit with this AU stuff. I know that sounds a little selfish, but there it is.

I listen to 7 wow podcasts each week on my drive to school (I’d listen to more, but there are not a lot that meet my stringent standards), and lately i’ve dropped a few (hunting lodge, tnb) due to loss of interest. However, after reading a post above about one of your “listeners” stopping his/her subscription, I realize I need to pick some podcasts back up. Boredom is certainly not the best reason to drop a show that has kept you you entertained. And, in my opinion, neither is a disagreement on opinion. I value your willingness to share honest and fully-disclosed opinions, whether I agree with them or not, and it is because of your AU rant that I realized that podcasts like thehuntinglodge and TNB still do need my support. Thanks!

I only wish that brig had been more open on his podcast. In the last few episodes I listened to, he came across as a burned-out whiner. After listening to them completely I got over that impression (I respect the hell out of the guy and will definately miss thl) but it was something I had to force myself to do. Please keep up with the honesty and try to be as transparent as possible! List names if you are going to rant so that listeners like myself can do some research and see the meat of an issue. Otherwise you may lose me due to shortsightedness on my part.

I can forgive mistakes, but only if I know there were some.

Anyways, great show… I usually drop shows if the hosts have annoying voices, but so long as I imagine seven to be a dainty little lady, I’m good to listen to yours.

Sorry if this doesn’t make any sense… I’m writing this on my iPhone, so there could be some translation issues.

    Go Seahawks

    • Whiner?!? I came across as a whiner?!? And you listen to Seven?!? Geez man!! :P lol j/k

I want to say I appreciate your words, thoughts and intentions. There is a lot of weighty truth to them and I’ll honestly take them to heart.

      Thanks again.
      -Brig

  11. Just wanted to say that I love you guys 10x more for this kind of stuff – bringing this whole situation to light and whatnot. This is why out of the two dozen or so podcasts I subscribe to each week, yours stands out as one of the MUST-LISTEN-TO-NO-MATTER-WHAT shows. That and the beer. Beer always helps.
